At present, while putting the finishing touches on this book, the general public seems to be undergoing a resurgence of interest in the psychedelic experience, highlighted by even popular mainstream writers such as Michael Pollan. While in general I see this as a very welcomed and positive development, my expectations run considerably short of the revolution in understanding hoped for by many involved in this endeavor. The reason for this is not however based upon the potential of psychedelics themselves, but on the irreconcilable differences between the mindset of "modern man" and the expanded consciousness accessible through these substances. We have come this way before... and if the psychedelic community is not more careful this time, there will likely be a re-run of the 1960's, in which the sensationalized media accounts of casualties sour public opinion, lawmakers harden their resolve with irrational legal status, and the legitimate research taking place, likely the only chance for a legitimate way forward, is shut down. While there is a growing amount of literature available from this research community I believe there is also something to be gained by a reader from entering into this world through the eyes of a troubled adolescent and then following this same person through the changes which followed. My main hope in sharing these experiences is that they may assist someone having already tried psychedelics, but also that a newcomer to this subject matter can gain some insight. The format of this book first details the actual experiences as they occurred, followed by a commentary which takes into account the mindset in which they had taken place. As the content of these experiences delve further and further into the subconscious, my mindset is changed considerably and the commentaries which follow are forced to adopt a more speculative posture. That the ontological mechanics of the psychedelic experience itself align up so well with eastern philosophical belief systems can be no mere coincidence. And when the descriptions from the most recent discoveries in sub-atomic physics sound like the ramblings of a Hindu philosopher... one should take notice. There is something going on here, something which I believe deserves more attention. What I explore in these following chapters is one of the oldest mysteries known to humankind, a place tightly guarded by superstition, cultural identity and organized religion; a place which defies any known language to accurately describe: our inner world.

Thai prawn coconut soup served in a coconut shell, followed by steaming, aromatic osso buco on creamy potato celeriac and French beans almondine, with Belgian flourless chocolate torte on cr me sabayon for dessert. This is just one of many menus I created for a yacht during my adventures at sea. Throughout my years working as a chef on private yachts, I have often been asked, "What kinds of meals are served on these luxurious yachts?" This cookbook answers that question, providing many of the recipes and menus that I have used on board yachts. Each of the ten chapters describes a yacht and its worldwide cruising destination-and the full-course menus and individual recipes that were created on the journey. The ingredients, dishes, and wines reflect the specialties that are enjoyed in each region of the world. Whether you prepare an entire meal or design your own menu using one of the many recipes in this book, you'll find the recipes clear and easy to follow. They are written in simple terms, using measurements, equipment, and ingredients that can be found in most kitchens. All of the courses have been wine-paired by a professional wine connoisseur from Total Wine and More . Suggestions for wine options cover a variety of price ranges, so you can have a great wine for a modest price or be decadent for a special meal. You don't have to leave your home to enjoy a travel-inspired gourmet meal. Cruise with me on the Mexican Sea of Cortez and enjoy grilled mahi mahi with cilantro and pumpkin seed pesto, experience green-lipped mussels in New Zealand's Bay of Islands, and savor the sweet tangy taste of an award-winning key lime pie in the Bahamas. Bon app tit! Experience the adventure of worldwide travel by creating delicious, gourmet meals in your own kitchen or galley.

Glass Half Full: Our Australian Adventure Find out what it takes to keep the Glass Half Full, as challenging life events including grief, loss, PTSD and devastating floods, test this expat step-family to their limits. After enduring divorce and numerous child custody battles, Sarah Jane knew that a fresh start in Australia was their only chance of future happiness and that as a family they were making the right decisions. Living the Australian dream in Alice Springs was everything they hoped for until life-changing events started to test the foundations of this resilient family. Using every ounce of positivity they could muster they struggled on and just as they thought the worst was over Mother Nature intervened and washed away the roots to their new life during the Brisbane floods of 2011. This story lets you experience Australian life with an inspirational woman and her courageous family, as they struggle to survive challenging life events and keep their dreams alive. Life is never without its challenges, but how many life-changing events can one family endure before they reach breaking point? Find out in this heart wrenching and touching true story. Two Dogs and a Suitcase: Clueless in Charente Follows the French exploits of Sarah Jane and her family as they endeavour to rebuild their lives in another new country, after spending four and half years in Australia. The title says it all: literally what they have and where they are, but that's only part of the story. Their goal was to focus positively on the present and to start a new, optimistic chapter back in Europe nearer to the children, leaving the dark clouds of the challenges they faced in Australia as a distant memory. Share their experiences as they arrive in rural South West France portrayed through Sarah Jane’s reflections, thoughts and observations about her family and their new French lifestyle. Follow Sarah Jane’s tentative steps into a writing career as they start renovating a rustic cottage while managing the ups and downs of family life. Once again, Sarah Jane will make you laugh and cry as she endeavours to live life to the fullest with a generous helping of positive spin thrown in for good measure. Our Frugal Summer in Charente: An Expat’s Kitchen Garden Journal Meet Sarah Jane, a woman with a reputation for culinary catastrophe who tries to keep her family fed in challenging circumstances in rural France. Frugal living was not part of the plan when they arrived from Australia to undertake the renovation of a quaint cottage in the Charente. However, when life throws them a curve-ball the challenge was set. How would they survive in France with very little money and two Australian cattle dogs. The answer came in the form of 5 chickens, 4 ducks, a vegetable garden and hedgerow foraging! The frugal plan was to save money by any means possible, to enable any money they could earn to be invested into continuing the renovation of the cottage. In true ‘Good Life’ style Sarah Jane attacks this challenge head on by keeping some small livestock and converting a garden, that resembled a meadow, into a French ‘potager’ or kitchen garden. The French tradition of using produce from their ‘potagers’ is renowned for enabling families to create meals that are healthy, cost effective and simple. There are 31 recipes for a variety of food and drinks, included in a month by month account, of how they transformed a neglected garden into a frugal yet productive expat kitchen garden.

The online literary magazine www.brdman.com presents Wartime Memoirs of Drunken Debauchery, Dr. Brdman's first collection of memoirs. Brdman's raw confessional writing style, loaded with sarcasm and wit, fluctuates between poetic verse and narrative prose, while alternating tone and form in order to promulgate his constant state of cognitive dissidence. Unapologetically, Matthew Joseph pontificates his lifelong struggles with faith, love, sexual promiscuity, childhood abandonment, gynecomastia, death, and perpetual alcohol abuse, which hindered his development as a leader of Marines and as a man. Developing severe hypogonadism and losing the ability to produce testosterone and sperm coerced Matthew Joseph to reevaluate his life of mass destruction. Not every chapter will make you laugh; not every chapter will make you cry. In the end, Wartime Memoirs of Drunken Debauchery (WMDs) leaves readers in shock and awe.

K.C. writes me occasionally when she's not working or studying or playing since she likes to get letters from me even though she lives only a few blocks away. One day K.C. writes,"One out of every 10,000 babies is born with a tail, and I think you were one of them. They cut the tail off at birth and usually don't tell the mother. You have a scar back there as I recall." My bathroom mirror is mounted on the wall at a height where most faces fall, so when I pull my pants down to examine what's left of my tailbone, I can't see my butt or my backbone because the angle's wrong, and my head won't turn far enough around anyway. Maybe Barbie or Regan MacNeil could, but they wouldn't need to. Even with a hand mirror, I can't see the mark because the complexity of reflective angles defeats my desire to examine my body's geography. The mystery remains right where anybody but me can see it.

This is the modern, autobiographical account of the author's journey into the primitive wilderness of coastal British Columbia, and into the uncharted wilderness of the soul. It is both an inward journey, and an outward quest. The book is a rambling narrative, filled with unique insights, and presented in an introspective style. It is a true tale of adventure, misadventure, debauchery, wonder, mysticism, and miracles. It is a journey into rare experiences, and it is a journey home.
