Senior Fitness Test enhanced e-book editions now available! Through an integrated text and video combination, Senior Fitness Test Manual, Second Edition (Enhanced), offers the most comprehensive and reliable test battery for assessing physical fitness in adults ages 60 and older. The tests in this resource assist health practitioners and fitness and rehabilitation specialists in identifying weaknesses that cause mobility problems, developing exercise programs that improve functional fitness, preventing future mobility issues, and evaluating progress. The Senior Fitness Test (SFT) is a simple, economical method of assessing the physical attributes that older adults need in order to perform daily activities. It consists of seven tests—covering lower- and upper-body strength, aerobic endurance, lower- and upper-body flexibility, agility, and balance—that can be conducted with minimal space, equipment, and technical requirements. The manual presents clear instructions on preparing and administering the tests and interpreting and using the test results. Video clips are integrated right into the text to provide even futher instruction and full visual demonstrations of test protocols, including setup, execution, safety, evaluation, and modification of testing protocols to accommodate clients’ limitations. The second edition of the Senior Fitness Test Manual has been expanded to include ways to modify test protocols for older adults with limiting conditions and offers more in-depth information on improving test scores, including illustrated instructions for exercises that can be prescribed to seniors to help them improve their fitness. In addition, the manual retains national normative data based on age and sex for over 7,000 adults ages 60 to 94, and it now includes criterion-referenced, clinically relevant fitness standards. These new criterion-referenced standards allow practitioners and older adults to identify the test scores at a specific age that are correlated with maintaining adequate functional mobility into the 90s, providing a new and deeper understanding of the test scores. This allows practitioners and their clients to focus on maintaining or improving functional fitness with customized goals meant to preserve and improve individual abilities.

Exercise is important during every stage of your life, but even more so as you approach your senior years. That's because exercise can potentially reduce your risk of developing chronic health conditions like diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. When you do an aerobic activity like running, biking, or swimming, you're forcing your heart to work harder to keep up with your movement. In the process, you're also helping to lower your blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and heart rate. Exercise also plays a pivotal role in mood. When you exercise, your body releases more endorphins, also known as one of the "feel-good" hormones. Endorphins can substantially improve your mood and even reduce pain, often compared to the effects of heavy-duty painkillers. Even though exercise takes a lot out of you in terms of energy, exercise also has great potential to boost your energy levels in the long-term. That's a direct result of the newly released endorphins and a better ability to get quality sleep at night. Perhaps the most noticeable benefits of exercise during your senior years are the improvements in strength, balance, and mobility. You can achieve this through strength and aerobic training and it greatly reduces your risk of falls, osteoporosis, and arthritis. But exercising also goes further than what was mentioned above - it can lower your risks for falls. By increasing your strength, you can lift your feet higher which can prevent you from catching your toe on the edge of a step, for example, and tripping (and risk breaking a bone). Plus, my book also discusses things you can do around your house to lessen your chances of falling. Measures taken to prevent falls is very important as we age. After all, falling is the number one reason why seniors break bones - especially hips. When that happens, many of them do not fully recover and end up losing their independence by living in an assisted-living facility or nursing home because they can no longer take care of themselves If you have an aging family member (or are one yourself), you owe it to them (or yourself) to get this book. The information can not only slowing down the aging process, but also preserve a better quality of life.

Have you been working real hard to maintain your muscle mass as you've aged, but still cannot achieve the body that you want? Most likely, you've been doing something wrong along the way. Maintaining muscle mass (especially in older adults) is not as easy as many people think. There are several factors to consider to successfully build muscles and to achieve the size you want. These include: - Proper nutrition. - The types of exercises best suited for building specific muscle groups in older adults. - Alternating workouts to sustain muscle growth. - Allowing downtime to prevent your muscles from injury due to overworking and for them to repair and rebuild. Not only do I cover the three different types of equipment, but also terminology such as reps, sets, and workout splits. I also hit upon all the major muscle groups and suggest exercises on how to do each one (with video). Then I wrap it up with several sample workouts depending on your workout split. Don't waste your time and effort on something that does not work. Do it right by buying my "Senior Fitness - Building Muscle In Older Adults" book now and start building muscle tomorrow!
