A gripping book from the bestselling author of hugely popular self-help book, The Road Less Travelled. Leading psychiatrist and self-help pioneer Dr M.Scott Peck reveals his encounters with evil, during sessions with patients of his psychiatric therapy. "The patient suddenly resembled a writhing snake of great strength. . . More frightening than the writhing body, however, was the face. The eyes were hooded with lazy reptilian torpor. . ." This is the second bestselling book by Dr M. Scott Peck. In this gripping psychology book, the leading psychiatrist describes his encounters during psychiatric therapy with patients who are not merely ill but manifestly evil - People of the Lie. This brilliant, disturbing book forces us to confront the darker side of our natures and to recogise that without spiritual and religious dimension, modern psychiatry cannot claim to understand human nature or behaviour. It is a worthy successor to The Road Less Travelled.

This book describes the unnecessary actions of Abraham Lincoln in causing and pursuing the greatest American crime of the nineteenth century, the American Civil war and secondly its cover-up by his cabinet and all the sycophantic historians following. My extensive reading on the Civil War and visiting the Gettysburg battlefield left me aghast as to the number of soldiers, the cream of. American manhood, were sacrificed and wasted upon the numerous battlefields 600,000 plus, more dead than all American wars combined. Yet historians pass this off as justifiable homicide, and a small price to pay to achieve freedom for four million slaves. To me this is sheer blasphemy! According to 'the philosophical principles espoused by Jean Jacques Rousseau, John Locke, Thomas Hobbes etc., the Thirteen Colonies claimed their natural right to declare their independence fro. the Mother Country, Britain. and establish their own right to self-determination. The Declaration of Independence, beginning "When in the Course of human Events, it becomes necessary for one People t() dissolve the Political Bands which have connected the. with another" etc., says it all. (Interestingly Texas used almost identical language in their declaration to be free from Mexico.) But men the South had the audacity to declare these same fundamental rights an enraged Lincoln denied it to them thereby plunging the nation in the worst case of fratricide the world has ever known through his scorched-earth policy. Using the clever battle-cry. "The Nation must be preserved" he convinced the Nation as to the urgency of crushing the South.

Like most of us, Ian Vince used to think of the British countryside as average, unexciting - as dramatic as a nice cup of tea. Then, over the course of a single car journey, the features of our green and pleasant land reawakened a fascination with geology that he had long forgotten, and he began to delve beneath the surface (metaphorically, that is). From the rocks of north-west Scotland which are amongst the oldest on the planet to St Michael's Mount off the coast of Cornwall, which was still being shaped in human memory, The Lie of the Land takes us on a journey through a fantastically exotic Britain of red desert sands, shattering continental collisions and tides of volcanic lava. Ian Vince shows us how Britain came to look the way it does; and with warmth and wit transports us back through billions of years to a land that time forgot.

A fully updated and revised edition of the book USA Today called “jim-dandy pop history,” by the bestselling, American Book Award–winning author "The most definitive and expansive work on the Lost Cause and the movement to whitewash history." —Mitch Landrieu, former mayor of New Orleans From the author of the national bestseller Lies My Teacher Told Me, a completely updated—and more timely than ever—version of the myth-busting history book that focuses on the inaccuracies, myths, and lies on monuments, statues, national landmarks, and historical sites all across America. In Lies Across America, James W. Loewen continues his mission, begun in the award-winning Lies My Teacher Told Me, of overturning the myths and misinformation that too often pass for American history. This is a one-of-a-kind examination of historic sites all over the country where history is literally written on the landscape, including historical markers, monuments, historic houses, forts, and ships. New changes and updates include: • a town in Louisiana that was the site of a major but now-forgotten enslaved persons’ uprising • a totally revised tour of the memory and intentional forgetting of slavery and the Civil War in Richmond, Virginia • the hideout of a gang in Delaware that made money by kidnapping free blacks and selling them into slavery Entertaining and enlightening, Lies Across America also has a serious role to play in contemporary debates about white supremacy and Confederate memorials.

This volume is the companion to Charles J. Alber's Enduring the Revolution: Ding Ling and the Politics of Literature in Guomindang China. It is the first serious attempt to reconstruct Ding Ling's biography during the last few decades of her life. Most Westerners know her as a progressive woman writer who became famous during the May 4 Movement, championed its values in Yan'an and was criticized in the rectification campaigns that followed. Few know about her life afterward and the arduous process of rehabilitation. Here for the first time readers will learn about her life in the Great Northern Wasteland, solitary confinement in Qincheng prison, her visit to the United States, participation in the spiritual pollution campaign, and finally, the attempt to launch the journal China. All of this puts a new perspective on the life of one of China's most preeminent woman writers.

His book spent in excess of 10 years on the New York Times bestseller list - longer than achieved by any other living author. Millions of readers understood his message that life is difficult and that it is by overcoming a constant stream of problems that personal and spiritual fulfilment is attainable, operating at the interface of psychology and theology. In 1987 Ken Ham wrote what would become a prophetic warning to the Church about the destructive effects of compromise with evolutionary ideas, and how this compromise undermines Scriptural authority and erodes Christian confidence in the infallibility of God's Word. Today we have Christians not only confused when it comes to Genesis and age of the earth, but even the reality of Hell, Adam as a real person, and Christ's own words about creation, marriage and more are being debated in the pulpits across the world. In this special revised and updated edition, Ken Ham again takes the lead in pointing out the looming precipice the Church is rushing towards, how evolution and/or millions of years, is driving away young people of the faith, and the biblical solution that can change it!
