This is the first detailed guide to the Bosnian part of the new Via Dinarica hiking trail that carves its way through the Dinaric Alps, one of Europe's least explored mountain ranges and last true wilderness frontiers, connecting the seven nations of Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, Kosovo, and Albania. In total, this trail system will span over 1,350km, 333km of which is in Bosnia Herzegovina. The Via Dinarica consists of three routes - White, Green and Blue - and this guide focuses primarily on the White Trail through Bosnia and Herzegovina, following the natural flow of the highest peaks of the Dinaric Alps. Detailed descriptions of each of the 12 stages of the White Trail through Bosnia and Herzegovina are included, along with maps, altitude charts and helpful tips, as well as recommendations for waypoint visits and nearby highlights. Also included are an overview of the flora and fauna of the region, details of accommodation for each step of the way, and information on local public transport, culture, food and language. The natural and cultural wonders of the Dinaric Alps are the best-kept secret of the Balkans, a region with some of the wildest, most impressive natural beauty in the world. All of the countries along the Via Dinarica boast beautiful mountains, alpine lakes, karst caves, forest preserves and pristine rivers that have forged extraordinary canyons and gorges. Here, there is also an abundance of enduring mountain communities that maintain their traditional ways of life and sustainable reliance on the land. Although the Via Dinarica is primarily a hiking trail, there are opportunities for many different outdoor adventure sports along the way, such as rafting, skiing, mountain biking, rock climbing, canyoning, caving, etc. The Via Dinarica White Trail in Bosnia and Herzegovina is 333km long, takes an estimated 125 hours to complete, climbs the highest, often snow-capped mountains of the Dinaric Alps, and passes through or near over 5 national parks and many nature preserves, as well as one of the two remaining European rainforests, the Perucica primeval forest. With this handy, portably guide, you can discover it all.

This new fully updated 3rd edition of Bradt's Kosovo is the only full-length English guidebook to this land rich in cultural heritage, generous hospitality and stunning scenery which is celebrating its 10th anniversary of unilateral independence from Serbia. Updated by two resident tourism experts, this new edition is an ideal companion for all visitors, offering maps, contacts and detailed information not easily accessible online, insider knowledge of one of Europe's last unspoiled destinations, and comprehensive detail on sites, attractions and practical information. What was once a hub for adventurous backpackers and international organisations has become an outdoor adventure destination in its own right with a compelling buzz thanks in part to a vibrant and dynamic young population: the average age here is 26. Mega-hiking trails like the Via Dinarica and Peaks of the Balkans have brought attention to the country's unmatched scenery and multitude of 2,500+ metre peaks. New via ferratas - climbing routes - in the country's north and west appeal to the adventurous set, while newly restored archaeological sites offer a haven for history buffs as well. This third edition contains a wealth of new tour operators and fully updated maps to key cities and regions that make it easier than ever to explore Europe's youngest country. Ringed by high mountains and recovering from a turbulent past, Kosovo is enjoying a tourism renaissance. Following this guide, visitors can ski over pristine snowfields and hike among saw-toothed mountains, explore the ebb and flow of Islam and of Orthodox Christianity at beautiful shrines such as Gracanica Monastery or Prizren's Sinan Pasha Mosque, sample raki at one of the vineyards, visit a traditional stone kulla, and be initiated into Prishtina's coffee-drinking culture. Bradt's Kosovo caters for all travellers. With detailed descriptions of the country's lively cafés and wide-ranging restaurants, as well as the thriving outdoor adventure scene, plus accommodation to suit all budgets, this new edition is the ideal companion for tourists, NGOs and long-term visitors.

- Waterproof - Tear-Resistant - Travel Map The Western Balkans region, an adventure playground and rising star of Europe, is loaded with Old World traditions, slow food culture, ancient towns, and rarely visited villages. The area stretches from the Adriatic Sea in the west, up and over mountain ranges, raging rivers, tectonic lakes, steep gorges, and thousands of miles of paths, trails, and routes. Discover eight countries--all with their special brand of Balkan magic: Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, Serbia, Kosovo, and Macedonia. National Geographic's Western Balkans Adventure Map will meet the needs of travelers with its detailed and accurate information. The map includes the locations of UNESCO World Heritage sites and exotic places to discover, including Slovenia's Triglav National Park, the walled city of Dubrovnik in Croatia, and the World Heritage Lake Ohrid in Macedonia. The map comes with a user-friendly index and clearly marked road network complete with distances and designations for roads/highways, plus secondary routes for those seeking to explore off the beaten path. Start your adventure with a few days, weeks, or months on the 1,200-mile Via Dinarica Trail that traverses the region through the Dinaric Alps and the Sharr Mountain Range. While on the trail--or off--visit one of the many premier national parks: the waterfalls of Plitvice in Croatia; the mountainous Durmitor in Montenegro; Serbia's lush and green Tara, Theth National Park with epic views across the Albanian Alps, and the historic Sutjeska park in Bosnia and Herzegovina. And when it's time for a break, the Balkans are known for their cuisine. Farm-fresh vegetables across Macedonia, savory pastries slow-roasted over an open flame in Kosovo, and delectable seafood up and down the Adriatic coast pairs perfectly with delicious red and white wines from across the entire region. The northern and western portions of the region--stretching from Slovenia, down Adriatic coast, and including Croatia, Montenegro, and Albania--are shown on the front side of the map. The reverse side provides details about the countries on the eastern half of the Western Balkans: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo, and Macedonia. It overlaps the front side, roughly, along the peaks of the Dinaric Alps, which run diagonally from Slovenia to the border between Kosovo and Albania. IF YOU MISS YOUR DAD, READ THIS BOOK. A great read from an extremely versatile author. He brings his father back to life through his heartfelt stories. This book is about my father, his love of fishing, our relationship, and my memories about him. My Dad was born during the Great Depression. That event shaped his life and his thinking. It placed limits on him that he wasn't able to overcome. He wasn't perfect, and he knew it. My Dad was a smart man and raised me the best that he could. He provided me with as much love as he could. His love came in the form of companionship. Men who were raised during the Great Depression needed to be tough for they'd endured tough times. Such men went through several wars. They weren't huggers; they felt that they needed to display great strength. I accepted my Dad for who he was. He was a sensitive man, who when confronted with his shortcomings, admitted them and tried to improve himself. Throughout his years, he grew and became a better person. I am extremely lucky that my father spent so much time with me. Although my father was an extremely busy man, he always gave freely of his time for me. I'm exceptionally grateful for what we were able to share. Fishing was perhaps my father's greatest love after my mother, Roxy. My father was not among the best fishermen I ever met; he is the best fisherman I ever met. As you read this book, you can see the types of relationships that fathers and sons used to have. Relationships where they shared vast amounts of time together, where they made time for each other, where they challenged each other to become better people, and where they strengthened their relationship through mutual respect, acceptance, and understanding. I won't ever get to see my father again and that hurts, but at least I can share our relationship with you, dear reader. And, when I miss my Dad, I can turn to these pages. Here I can hear his voice, see him smile, and talk to him. He becomes alive again, and I can feel his passion. You'll share this experience with me while reading this book.
